Week 1 was a bit of a disappointment. On the negative side, Clemson was a total disaster, they looked like an FCS team against LSU. My FCS ML strategy also didn’t pay off, and none of the picks were particularly close to hitting.

On the plus side, Tulsa ML hit, and pretty easily at that. Sam Houston State ML also nearly hit, they outplayed Troy and had some bad luck in the red zone.

Middle Tennessee @ Marshall (Saturday, 6 PM Central)

Middle Tennessee was supposed to be really bad. They’re even more broke than the typical G6 team and there’s almost no talent on their roster. However, Marshall might also be really bad. They turned over the whole roster in the offseason, which isn’t a good sign between year 1 and year 2 of a coach’s tenure. They also were destroyed by Penn State last week. I got this when it opened at 17.5 at it was immediately bet down to 14 which is a good sign- this line is still too big.

Middle Tennessee +17.5 -110 (2 units)

Middle Tennessee ML +650 (1 unit)

South Alabama @ Tulane (Saturday, 6 PM Central)

Tulane is going through a transition year as Jon Sumrall left for Florida. They looked bad in week 1 against Duke, but that’s priced into this line (it came down from 13 or so in the preseason to 10). I still think this number is too small though- Tulane is one of the most moneyed teams in the G6, and South Alabama is one of the least. Unlike Marshall/MTSU, where the talent gap is small, this is a G6 game with an enormous talent gap and I like Tulane.

Tulane -10 -115 (1 unit)

Mississippi State @ Minnesota (Saturday, 2:30 PM Central)

This game is going to be a very interesting measuring stick between the SEC and Big Ten. I was surprised to see Minnesota is a home dog, though. I like the Gophers this season- I have them over 6.5 wins. Mississippi State is the worst team in the SEC, and if they were playing a truly bad Big Ten team (Rutgers, Michigan State etc.) then they should be a road favorite. But Minnesota is a middle class Big Ten team and I’m surprised to see them as a home dog here.

Minnesota ML +105 (1 unit)

Washington State @ Kansas State (Saturday, 11 AM Central)

I’m much higher on Washington State than the consensus- I was all over them in the preseason, and I had them +21.5 last week against Washington. They held their own in that game despite losing the turnover battle 3-0. Kansas State is a solid Big 12 team but I’m going to keep riding Wazzu for a bit.

Washington State +18.5 -105 (1 unit)

Delaware @ Vanderbilt (Saturday, 3:15 PM Central)

Vanderbilt is a good “blow up” candidate this year, and I bet their alt win total under in the preseason. I was alarmed by their week 1 win over Austin Peay- true freshman Jared Curtis was expected to start at QB (he was the number 1 overall recruit in the country), but former NMSU QB Blaze Berlowitz started instead. That tells me Curtis is not ready and raises some further questions to me about the Commodores. I like a stab at Delaware ML here.

Delaware ML +800 (0.5 units)
